Centre François Mauriac de Malagar
François Charles Mauriac was a French author, member of the Académie française (from 1933), and laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature (1952). He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Légion d'honneur in 1958.
The residence of Malagarre, dating from the XVIIIe century, is an old property of Célestins de Verdelais, sold to the French revolution in 1792. The vineyard and its small castle became the property of the family of François Mauriac (1885-1970) in 1843. Bought by Jean Mauriac, the great-grandfather of the writer for its grounds and vineyard of 20 square hectares, he became its owner in 1927, with the death of his mother. He wrote many of his work there.
